# Update packages first
apt update && apt install -y openssh-server

# Start and enable SSH on boot
systemctl enable --now ssh

passwd root

# Verify it’s running
systemctl status ssh

mostly, need to permit root: nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config

  change #PermitRootLogin prohibit-password to:
  PermitRootLogin yes
